The Psalms as support

I'm not feeling very good at all. In a downward spiral again, though I have level times as well. But being alone, my husband away, doesn't help. A friend suggested I find some Scripture to help me. I turned to the Psalms. Had a bit of trouble finding something I could really latch onto that I found helpful, but eventually did find Psalm 6.

Peer support is such a blessing. To hear people talk about their struggles with depressed thoughts and feeling and to realize you're not the only person to feel that way gives comfort. That must be why the Psalms are such a comfort during hard times. To read King David's words expressing his emotional pain is as good as an antidepressant, especially when he ends with praises to God. He helps me remember that God hears me and that He loves me.

O Lord, do not rebuke me in anger
or discipline me in your wrath.
Be merciful to me, Lord, for I am faint;
O Lord, heal me, for my bones are in agony.
My soul is in anguish. How long, O Lord, how long?
Turn, O Lord, and deliver me;
save me because of your unfailing love.

and then:

The Lord has heard my cry for mercy;
the Lord accepts my prayer.

Psalm 6:1-4 and 9.

Blessings Marja...I came here long ago through Nancie's in Singapore and I just want you to know I'm praying for you NOW!

Lord, Yes, I join Marja in the Psalms like Psalm 6 as David surely understood! Be merciful O Lord on Marja and come to her rescue right now in a tangible way to stop her from spiraling downward and lift her up. Way up high on eagle's wings and let her know though her husband is away, You are her present help in any kind of trouble. heal her mind oh Lord, for Marja has the mind of Christ & nothing can separate her from His love. Hear her cry, O Lord & accept her prayer! Be near to Marja and draw her under Your wings of protection and safety in You!
For Marja has not been given a spirit of fear, but of love & power and a strong mind.

Prayer: Jesus, You are the Lord almighty. There is no darkness that is dark to You, and no difficulty that is beyond Your reach. You are present in every moment of our lives and nothing escapes Your notice.

I lift up Marja to You today Lord, and ask You to surround her with Your peace. There are anxious thoughts lurking about and she needs Your help. Just as You brought comfort to Paul, I ask, Lord that You would whisper to Marja, “Take courage! Take courage! I am with you, Take courage!”

Let Your voice drown out the fearful thoughts that reach out from the dark. Give her the grace Lord to draw near to You today, and enter into Your presence where fear and anxiety disappear and hope and strength abound.

Thank You Lord! Be with her now and send Your mighty angels around her and some people nearby from her church or group that can support her. We give You all the glory, honor, & praise for giving her more strength & food for thought in Your Jesus Name, we pray.

Sending love, hugs, and prayers. Do not be afraid to call, get or seek people right now to strengthen you & help you. No more spiraling down...only UP, UP, UP into the arms of Your Heavenly father who hears you & knows you & each struggle.

Peggy, Thank you so much for the prayer. Thank you for being such a friend. Your prayer made me want to cry, which in a way is a good thing.

I do have supportive friends who are keeping track of me and I am very grateful for them.

Right now I'm looking through old negatives, my Bible open next to my light table. Praying that God will help me speak to help others, through words and pictures. Joining words from the Bible with photographs I've taken. This work comforts me.

Thank you again, Peggy, for your kindness.
